This psalm is similar to Psalm 95. David continues to encourage others to sing to the Lord a new song. How do you get a new song? If you know the Lord, He leads you to sing to Him. You tell Him that you will sing to Him a new song. You have run out of the other songs, and you want a new one from Him. Open your mouth, and use what you know.
I want to Sing to You, Lord. (This is admission that you want to Sing to Him.)
Now use what you have noted in Psalm 95, and 96 to make up a new song to the Lord.
O come, let us sing to the Lord a new song.
O come, let us sing to the Lord, who is my rock, and my salvation.
Come before Him with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise.
